High Waist Pants Anyone?

What sort of body shape does the high waisted pants suit? Can a shorty like me (im 4'11) wear them? if not, what are the best pants for me? jeans, office pants, casual pants....hope to hear from you soon! - ling

Thanks for your question Ling! Sorry for the delayed reply! Anyway, I've done a little bit of research so here goes my answer:

I am from the school of thought that we can wear whatever we want as long as we are comfortable with it! Of course, this has a caveat - that is, we should also know what sort of style suits our frame! But then again, it all boils down to how one carries clothes. I mean, just look at the Olsen twins! They may be small but they still have tons of style, and can get away with chunky shoes and loose clothes. Yeah, even if convention would say otherwise. Those girls look good enough for the fashion pages even if they wear clothes and accessories that would suit taller women!

Now that being said, though we may be short (yes, I am a shorty too! Hehehe!) there are definitely lots of choices out there for us!

You asked about what sort of body type can wear high waist pants. I think high waist pants would look good on both curvy and skinny girls:





Notice though that high waist pants on curvy girls like Scarlett Johansson look better if the pant legs are skinny so that they don't run the risk of looking plump. Skinny girls on the other hand can get away with the wide legged style. So depending on one's body type, there still are certain styles one has to go for in choosing a pair of high waist pants. Should you choose to go for the latter, the trick here is to pair it with wedges or heels to give you the illusion of height. Just check out the photos below for inspiration:




Since you also asked about what sort of pants suit petite girls, well, I've always been a fan of skinny or cigarette pants that are cut just above the ankle! It has a classic, Audrey Hepburn appeal that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion:




I would also definitely recommend capris and skinny jeans for casual days and those classic bootleg pants for work that you can wear with heels to lengthen the legs. Just have fun and don't be afraid to experiment, because at the end of the day, if you feel great about what you are wearing, nobody can tell you otherwise! ;-)
