Grocery Shopping with My Baggus

Fed up with the plastic bags that I take home every time I go to the grocery, I have now made it a point to bring my own bags with me not just to the grocery but wherever I go.

I usually do my supplies shopping once every two weeks, and I usually bring home at least 10 plastic bags with each visit. Suffice it to say, I have accumulated a whole lot of plastic bags that it sickens me. I've got a huge Chinese market bag full of all those non-biodegradable junk!

So imagine my pleasure when I did my groceries this week and only used up 3 Baggus!

Not to mention, I got a rebate for bringing my own bags!

Best of all, it folds up nicely that I can store one or a few Baggus in my bag, see...

To make sure that I don't forget to bring my Baggus with me, I hang the Baggu storage sack (which can fit up to 10 Baggus) with my keys so that I can grab a couple before I head out the door!

Baggus are available online through their website. They ship worldwide for $9.

Oh, and great news for those back home who have been looking for Envirosax bags! These bags are now available in the Philippines through Envirosax Philippines' multiply site.

Hey Tin!
Love those colors! I prefer solid colors kasi..

Do they also sell in packs? Are they bigger than the Envirosax? I already checked that site before and one bag costs P375 so that's P375 x 5 for one pack...

Hi Marnie! Yep! Great idea!!! I read about that in Jin's blog =)

Hahaha Belle! Funny ka talaga! Yeah, you have to be fast though and tell the cashier before hand that you have your own bags. Sometimes kasi they automatically pack the stuff in the plastic bags so I have to take it out from the plastic and transfer it to mine when I forget to tell them. But it feels good to do my share in saving the environment, naks! =)

They sell in packs of 3 or 6 too Ruby! Although the storage sack is bought separately for $5. But the more you buy, the cheaper it comes out per piece. Its 3 for $22 ($7.33/pc) and 6 for $38 ($6.33/pc), which is quite cheap na! =)

I really should start bringing my own bags when I go shopping. I have refused bags for my small purchases opting to just drop it in my bag but for big ones I think I should bring my own. makakatulong pa! They waste so much plastic bags here with their tendency to just shove items into the bag thus ending up with more bags than necessary. di kasi ayusin ng maayos para magkasya lahat =)

Yeah I agree Raissa, I notice, they even double bag it sometimes! Sayang talaga!

hay.. those are my pet peeves too - when baggers don't know how to bag the items. i tend to teach them myself pa! anyway, i always bring my rustan canvass shopping bag so i don't use their plastic bag. i also lug around amina's Natural Shopper when i go to malls.
tin! those colorful bags are such lovelies! if you have extras, sell them to me! :D

xoxo

Hey Tin, thanks for the "special mention"... Yeah, I really make it a point to bring my own shopping bag whenever I go out. That's why I placed it by the doorway. I find it cool to see "girls" here in Manila doing the same thing...

Such a brilliant idea! We all have to contribute to help stop global warming.

P.S. I would love to do groceries all the more if I bring along with me Goyard or Bottega V shoppers! hahaha

Sure Ruby!!! Great idea! I'll bring a couple of bags when I go home!!!

You're welcome Jin! It really feels good to be one less person adding to the litter...

That would be fab Gian, really fab! ;)

I used the Target reusable bags when I went there recently and they actually learned how to put items in the bag nicely rather than just shoving them in. So now, I bring it with me all the time so that if I find myself at Target I just the bag and I just carry one rather than have 3-4 of their bags. next on the list buying a Baggu and giving it to friends as gifts

baggu looks nice and packable but too expensive for me, for any filipino... i just bought reusable totes from TRADER JOES which i saw on EBAY. $1.99 each, and i got to join a raffle too!
