Farahbella

Simple and edgy are adjectives that do not necessarily go together. But Alnea and Rick Miskiv of the Osaka based label Farahbella, has made it their business to marry the two. Just check out their offering for F/W 08, themed "Imploding Volumes".

I just love the understated appeal of the clothes which I find intriguing. It is no wonder that this up and coming label is earning rave reviews in so short a time. Launched in Spring 2006, Farahbella debuted its first collection in Tokyo in Fall 2006. The label has also exhibited at London Fashion Week '07, "Under" Tokyo '07, and Rendezvous Paris '07. The Spring '08 collection is currently sold in boutiques in NYC, LA, London,Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.

Oh, and did I mention that Alnea, who is originally from San Francisco, is of Filipino descent? Another young design genius making waves in the international fashion scene! =)

I appreciate the bold and edgy "shapelessness" of the clothes. (Is "shapelessness" the new shape the way green is the new black? Hmmm.) It evokes a daring approach to dressing the female body. Women today can roam the streets in what could have been easily be dismissed as unflattering form, and be comforted by the the "forwardness of their fashion." These days we are a tolerant lot. :-)

However, in the panel fourth from top, the outfit in gray is decidedly sleepwear, as far as I'm concerned. It's practically an adult onesie! There are limits to the forwardness of MY fashion, apparently! ;-)
