Wide Legs for Petites

I know that a lot of petite girls out there are wondering if the wide leg trend in jeans will suit us (Hi Yosha!). I just want to assure y'all that with the right shoes (preferably wedges or platforms to evoke that groovy 70s vibe) and a well fitting top, yes! It can work nicely with people of our stature! Hehe!

I'm just little over 5' tall and I don't think I look that small wearing these wide legs right? I hope I'm not delusional, but with wide leg jeans, I seem to be much taller than I really am here:

I just need to have these jeans cut an inch or so, so that they don't sweep the floor as I walk. Ideally, wide leg jeans should let your shoes peek a bit, unlike in my photos. But oh well, I'm waiting to have my jeans cut back home where it just costs about $2. I'm not willing to shell out $10 to have my jeans shortened here. Talk about El Cheapo! Hahaha!

Ok, gotta go now! Still have chores to do! First on the agenda is rubbing this streak-y mirror with a bunched up newspaper dipped in a water/vinegar solution! Yup! An organic cleaning tip from your resident housewife =)

Being an under 5 ft petite. I consider myself an expert at this hahaha.... in HS and college I used stapler, safety pins.
Now I use double sided tape. Fold to desired length and use double sided tape to hold length.
Or, this kind of gauze that melts into the cloth when ironed to adhere 2 sides together.
A bit tedious but better than spending 10 bucks for it.
have a nice day! :)

Where can I buy wide leg jeans here in Manila?

Hi. I've been checking your blog once in awhile..I'm as close to 5ft as possible and I just bought the super flares from 7 for all mankind..and they fit great a nd they do make you 'look' taller.. BTW, is yours 7 too? I'm thinking of those '70's inspired wedges to match them. And like you, I'm cutting them when I go to the Philippines..spending $10-15 on hemming is ridiculous!!!

i actually spend $18 on hemming my jeans because i need the original hem reattached as opposed to just getting it cut and refolded. Is that the way they do it in the Philippines too?

Thanks for the tip Joy! That's a quick and easy fix while waiting to have my jeans hemmed! =)

Hi Anon! I haven't been back home so at this point, my wild guess is that Topshop and Mango would have wide leg jeans. Try the tiangges and SM though, they have some surprising finds there!

I agree Anna! It is ridiculous to pay so much just for these jeans to be hemmed! This particular pair I'm wearing is from H&M, very cheap! =) I also got the J Brand Lovestory wide legs, but that one fits slimmer around the thighs. Both fit great! I'm loving these wide leg jeans!

Hi Debbie! Yup, they re-attach the original hem to the jeans, and will charge you no less than $5 for it. Regular hemming is about $2.

My sis in Vegas bought her own mini sewing machine for that purpose!!! She used to bring her stuff to be altered at $10... Now, she doesn't have any more problems with length... Btw, the double side adhesive works too!!! I do that for my 6 year old girl's pants because she grows so fast and I don't want to cut the hems so as not to outgrow them sooner...

i love the pants! hello... H&M?! when are you coming to Manila???

here in Manila I haven't seen much wide leg pants that are really to die for. I think people are still stuck with the skinnies...

but my topshop wide leg pants are soooo over used. i wish they had them in more shades though.

Yup! Definitely check out H&M Anna! It was just $39.99, so it is worth a visit! Try the one in SOHO near Dean & Deluca, or the flagship in Fifth Avenue, nicer stuff there I think than in NJ hehe.

Thank you Marnie! =)

Oh yes! Thanks for reminding me Limebasil! UNIQLO does wonderful wide legs as well!

Hehehe, Thanks Mrs. Jackie T! =)

Wonderful advice Jin! I really should get a sewing machine! I love to sew, so I can use it to make other stuff as well!

Yup! H&M Cons! Super cheap! I'll be home this May! You want to make pabili no? Hahaha! Email me!

$5 for orig hem?!?!? That's crazy, I should save all my hemming needs for my next trip to the Philippines...btw, I forgot to mention that those jeans look great on you.

cd_mfo said...

Yes Debbie! Save it all for your next trip! If you buy a lot of jeans and need to have all of that cut, best to do it in Manila. You'll even have enough left to buy another pair of jeans with your savings =)
