Just When We Thought SM's Got It All...

...they're bringing in MORE! So if you haven't been inside SM lately, I think it's high time you went back for a visit!

SM recently started bringing in US brands to improve their selections and give their customers more merchandise to choose from. So if you happen to walk into the ladies section inside SM Makati or SM Megamall and you see BCBGeneration, Max and Cleo, Kensie Girl, Tokidoki, and Harajuku Lovers, remember, you are not in the twilight zone. Don't be surprised too if you see shoes from Sam Edelman (SM Megamall), Matt Bernson (these two make the coolest gladiator sandals), Charles David (SM Makati only for now), and Chinese Laundry and accessories from Tokidoki and Betsey Johnson.

If you think this is exciting enough, there are more brands coming in like Report, Me Too, Corso Como, Dolce Vita, Steve Madden (including hosiery i.e. tights, leg warmers etc!), Deux Lux, Via Spiga, Sequoia Paris and Pan Am (remember those ubiquitous Marc Jacobs designed Pan Am bags that were all the rage last year? Same company! UPDATE: currently available in SM Megamall). Disney Couture Jewelry, Nicole Miller, ABS Allen Schwartz and Adrienne Vittadini are also in the pipeline.

Looks like SM is evolving from its low-priced mass market roots and conquering new retail territory! I mean seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if ten years down the road, SM becomes Manila's version of Saks Fifth Avenue. (Not that they want to now - mass market is big business, but hey, Barneys was a second hand suits mecca in its early days!)

Now here's the best deal! Because this is SM, you can expect prices to still be reasonable. Prices are pegged at US retail, if not cheaper! For instance, Matt Bernson footwear retail here for $170-$180 but you can get it at SM starting at P4950. Seriously. (As for these KM gladiators below, these are P7650 according to AEC!)

But you better make your move right away, there's only one per size per style for this line! Then again, there's more to choose from anyway. You'll be in for a pleasant surprise at SM, that's for sure!

where can i find the goods in SM Makati?? i dont think the mass will ppreciate it though cos they dont know the brands yet and the prices are still expenssive. i dont think they will pay almost P5000 for a pair of sandals.

Thanks for the heads up though! :)

Fill me in: Is SM still the main department store in the Philippines? I had fond memories of going there during my childhood. I was always so excited when I traveled to Manila since the closest store to my house was a palengke.

bec of your post, i hied over to sm, got the matt bernson glads in gold. they're not 4950 though, they're 7650 pesos, around $160. some $10-20 less than retail in the US. SM makati doesn't have this style, i found these in megamall. makati has different stocks as megamall. the only colors are green (i don't know why, of all colors they chose to sell, it's green!), gold, and black. good thing there's 0% interest on installment on my credit card! heehee. :)

i didn't notice if there were panam bags in makati though. megamall has them. :)

OK girls, about your "why cheaper?" questions...My guess is, since they buy it wholesale, then they can afford to price it at par if not cheaper than US retail. SM also has the discretion to peg the prices of the goods at a range that the market can afford =)

To Ma. Christina - SM is one of several department stores in the Philippines, but I can definitely say it's the biggest, with the most branches across the country

Oops! Thanks for the clarification AEC! Yay! You finally got your gladiators! =)

Of course Jill! =)

Hi anon! It's because SM can afford to sell at lower margins, they purchase and sell in volume and sell a wide variety of goods, so they can easily price at par if not below US retail. And yes, some of these brands like Steve Madden, if I'm not mistaken are available in Rustans!

Awesome find, CD! Now if I can find the time, I'm trooping over to SM. I've always loved SM for bargain finds. :D

Oh yes Mrs. Jackie T! You have to! As soon as you get well SOON! =)

You will be surprised as to how much the mass market can spend. They're the ones who troop to La Coste shops and come out with several shopping bags. I wouldn't be surprised if they also can afford to pay for these shoes.

Mas afford pa nila kaysa sa atin. Cash buyers pa sila.
