Green Is The New Black

I was chatting with my friend Chico a couple of months back and we were discussing the direction where fashion and lifestyle is heading. You know typical girly stuff, but this time, with a sense of social and environmental awareness. Naks! Haha! We've noticed, anywhere you go these days, you're bound to encounter something green...

Schools:
Let's face it, when FIT actually offers regular city walking tours focusing on Green Fashion-Right Items and Environment Friendly Stores, then it's pretty a much sign that this green thing isn't just a passing fancy. We are actually at the forefront of a revolutionary mindset that is fast gaining steam!

Bookstores:
These days, books expound on how to live green, and with style at that! One of the must reads is Tamsin Blanchard's clever take on green living:

Here's what this book is about from amazon.com:

For girls who care about global warming, and next season's hot looks, Green is the New Black is a must-have accessory. Does our shopping addiction contribute to climate change? What's so special about organic cotton? Who are the real fashion victims behind the GBP3 jeans? From the truth about fast fashion to the best biodegradable shoes, from guilt-free spending sprees to the joys of swishing parties, Tamsin Blanchard is your guide to all things fairtrade and fabulous. She explains the principles of ethical fashion, from why it matters to how to do it. Offers tips for the aspiring green goddess: including how to knit your own scarf, seduction in eco-couture, the best places to shop for vintage sunglasses, and ethical bling. And includes fun facts and essential directories on every aspect of sustainable stylish living. With fashion secrets from celebrity friends, Green is the New Black is the chicest, greenest survival manual around. If you want to change the world, and your wardrobe, don't go shopping without it.

Bath & Body Care:
If you want Brad Pitt for Christmas, this is the closest you can get to having him while thinking green thoughts! Bwahaha!

Kiehl's developed this liquid body cleanser, made from 100% biodegradable ingredients (even the bottle is 100% Post Consumer Recycled). All of Kiehl's net profits from the sale of this product will support the work of JPF ECO SYSTEMS, a charitable partnership created by Kiehl’s and Brad Pitt to maximize awareness of environmental sustainability.

According to our dear Brad, "Kiehl's formulated this product to minimize the impact we have on our environment. All proceeds will go to benefit green initiatives around the globe." A great gift idea, this one!

Home and Grocery Supplies:
Now for domesticated folks like me, who also care about making sure our beautiful clothes don't get ruined in the wash, here's a wonder product from Nellie's that is biodegradable, non-toxic and hypoallergenic. These laundry nuggets are pre-measured so you only use what you need. Because they are made from natural ingredients, they don't have the chemicals and scents that can make fabrics stiff and irritating. The outside of the nugget is a biodegradable corn based material called MonoSol film. These are especially good for washing baby clothes or garments of people with sensitive skin.

The Apple Store:
Now let's not forget the techies! Being green isn't just for the hippie dippies. Apple recently released the greenest MacBook ever. The newest MacBook is now toxin free and made from highly recyclable materials. It is so energy efficient, it runs on a quarter power of the energy of a single light bulb! Now that is just brilliant!

Expect more green posts to come! There's a new green product born every minute!
