1. Why should women breast feed? Because this is the reason why God gave us women breasts, to give our children breast milk. Human milk for humans, cow's milk for cows.

2. What are the challenges of breast feeding? There are a lot, to be honest. Though breast feeding should come naturally,a lot can go wrong. In my case, I had a CS wound infection a week after I gave birth. I had to take antibiotics so baby had to take formula on a bottle. After a week and a half of that, she no longer wanted to nurse directly. Thank God for breast pumps. I still get to feed my baby my own milk.

3. What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
Even formula brands advertise that breast milk is still best for babies up to 2 years.

Women should breast feed because it's the most precious (aside from giving birth) thing they can give their babies. It's natural, pure and the safest to take.

The challenges of breastfeeding includes having mastitis, inverted nipple, unable to express milk properly, time-consuming with the frequent feeding & expressing of milk, breast feeling "full" most of the time, being away from your baby and not being able to breastfeed directly, and not being STRONG enough to endure all this while breastfeeding is the most challenging of all. (which I've all experienced firsthand) I've only breastfeed for 3 months w/ my first baby and I was greatly depressed by the fact that I couldn't directly breastfeed & do it longer. :( Now that my husband and I are planning our second baby next year, I really really hope I get to breastfeed longer at least 6 months to 1 year.

The best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breastfeed is to not give up! You can read all the tips and guides to help you with breastfeeding but eventually it will all boil down to how strong you are emotionally (more than physically) to have a very very supportive husband and family so that you won't feel alone in the process.

Why should women breast feed?
because the mother can produce the unique milk which meets all the nutritional requirements of her unique (human) baby. No cow's milk can substitute that.

what are the challenges of breastfeeding?
living in a society that lacks the right and complete information why breastfeeding is still the best for babies. For a mom who breastfeeds, its very important that her environment is fully supportive of her commitment to breastfeed.

What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
Educate yourself and continue to research on the wonders of breastfeeding. Join a community of breastfeeding moms to help you go thru the challenges of breastfeeding. At the end of the day breastfeeding is a commitment.

*Why should women breast feed? because it's the best that we can give our babies and it's a great bonding too

*What are the challenges of breast feeding?
mostly it's the latching, milk supply, it's sometimes exhausting and time consuming. But the greatest challenge so far is breastfeeding in public. Not a lot of people are comfortable with seeing women breastfeeding in public.

*What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
I would encourage mothers to continue breastfeeding inspite of all the challenges they encounter. I, myself just inspired a friend to breastfeed her child again after reading my blog.

- Why should women breast feed? Women should breasteed because it's one of God's amazing miracles! It is definitely the best not just for our babies because of its overall health significance, but for the world in general! Even the mothers could have a healthier well-being. They have lesser chance to certain cancers.

- What are the challenges of breast feeding?
For me, it would be that of working moms like me. As much as you want to directly breastfeed your child, you just can't! A pump is one of the things worth having.

- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
A support group, without a doubt is very necessary. But ultimately, self-encouragement should be first! when you feel like giving up, think of the long term effect breastmilk can give to your precious one.

- Why should women breast feed?

Women should breastfeed. There are thousands of reasons one can think of.

But for me, I exclusively breastfeed my son for a very special reason. I am diabetic. I was pregnant with my son while I have pre-existing diabetes. It was a very difficult road taken (being pregnant and diabetic) but through the help of a great medical team, a loving and supportive husband-- I now have a healthy, bouncing, smiling, craze-inducing baby boy.

Breastfeeding helps diabetic mothers reduce their sugars. My MD says (and according to what I have been endlessly reading on the internet) my sugars will be low for as long as I will breastfeed. It is best for me and best for my son. Breastfeeding would give him less chances of having diabetes, too! Aside from the fact that it is going to help me live a little longer, I am assured that my son will have the best.

- What are the challenges of breast feeding?
There are hundreds of issues on challenges of breastfeeding. For a working mom like me who is away from her baby most of the time. I express my milk and since I am teacher, I joggle between my classes, faculty meetings, checking lesson plans of the teachers in my department, counseling my graders and expressing milk in between. I express milk in Speech Laboratory booth, at a darkened corner of the Library or at the counseling booth of my friend who is a Guidance Counselor. I even expressed milk right in our Faculty Room (I was engorged!). We have no lactation room in our school so I bring my “gadgets” (gadgets, read: breastpump, ice packs, milk storage bottles, milk bags everything in a thermal bag!) everywhere in the campus. I don’t like to express milk in the clinic because it is filled with kids with sore eyes, fever, cough. When you are nursing your baby back home, you would not want to be near those sick children!

But I do it and I do it with gusto, I do it proudly! I don’t care. Challenging YES. But I don’t care. It is for my baby. No reason can ever be tiring me enough.

- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?

I don’t advise them. I SHOW THEM. I show them videos on youtube re: breastfeeding. I provide them with visual aids. I show them my expressed milk so they’d have an idea what to do when they return to work. I show them what is a breast pump and I show them how to use it. Hahahhaah! I visit the young, pregnant teachers in our school and I SHOW THEM. I give a demonstration on how to pump milk. What are the different ways to store the milk. I told them to go to BABYMAMA and read and learn. I don’t just encourage them, I calculate to them how much money they’d save against using formula (being in the teaching job puts us at a less powerful economic equation, if you get my drift! LOL!). What is so inspiring is, one of those whom I have encouraged to breastfeed has brought her own breast pump and milk storages for her baby. One also gave birth last Saturday and she promised that she too, will breastfeed after understanding how great breastfeeding is! Happy ending!

- Why should women breast feed? It is becoming a fad to always check the label. And infant's milk says: Breastfeeding is best for babies upto 2 years and beyond. Hence, why get the substitute when you can give the best for your child. It is good for you and for your baby, with numerous health benefits aside from the fact that it will cost you less. And
isn't it logical if we say, human milk are for infants.
- What are the challenges of breast feeding?
I think the challenges of breastfeeding are latching issues, inverted nipples, returning to work, lack of support from family and friends (especially if most of them didn't breastfeed), and the fear that your baby isn't getting enough milk especially in his/her first week of life plus everybody else is pushing you to give milk supplement.
- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
Be strong. While it is becoming a norm to feed the child with milk formula, it is always a brave choice to breastfeed knowing that it is still the best food of babies since milk formulas are just struggling to be "like" breast milk. It is also a great way to bond with your child.

- What are the challenges of breast feeding? Challenges of breastfeeding are sore/crack nipples, low milk supply, engorged breasts and formula ads.
- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed? Believing in oneself that one can breastfeed is the best advice to encourage a mom to breastfeed. Be positive and confident that a woman has enough and overflowing milk to her baby. :)

Why should women breast feed?
Simply because it's the best for baby!

What are the challenges of breast feeding?
I haven't breastfed yet, with the baby still due this December. Personally, the main challenges for me would be the physical pain (cracked nipples, engorgement), possible lack of supply, limited societal support. Good thing hubby is 101% supportive so I know I can overcome those challenges :)

What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
As a mom to be, the best advice I can give to a fellow mom to encourage breastfeeding is simply to SHOW them that I am determined to do it. The positive effects will show (healthier baby, greater bond.

Why should women breast feed? Women should breastfeed because not only is it soooo beneficial for mom and baby due to nutrients and physical effects of breastfeeding, but also it's the best way of bonding and learning about your young one! Breastfeeding enables us to be the best moms we can possibly be. :)
- What are the challenges of breast feeding?
I think public places still don't have enough breastfeeding areas. I find it very difficult to breastfeed in groceries or malls because there's no provision for it, or if there were, it would be situated in the end corners of the mall. Really not convenient for our nursing mothers at all.
- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
The best advice I can give moms out there is to relax and let nature take its course. True, we need to learn how to nurse, how to latch and how to hold baby properly etc etc. But we should not get stressed over it. Remember, breastfeeding is natural. Just follow your instincts and I'm sure it will work out. Being stressed makes it too frustrating for mommy and baby and leads to just giving up altogether. Don't be too hard on yourself and always have a positive outlook (for easy letdown hehe) Enjoy enjoy the precious moments between you and your baby. Happy breastfeeding month!

-Why should women breast feed?
There are many benefits to breastfeeding. It saves money. Breast milk nourishes the baby more than cow's milk. Breast milk lowers the risk of breast cancer for breastfeeding moms.
-What are the challenges of breast feeding?
For first time moms especially, like me, breast feeding can be tiring as it is done every hour or 2 hours. My baby got used to being held when being breastfed, so now he doesn't sleep soundly when left on the bed. Another challenge is having to breastfeed outside the home because there is usually no designated area in public places.

-What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
The best advice one can give is never give up. Many moms feel at the beginning that it is not possible for them due to many hindrances like low supply, inverted nipples, clogged breast ducts, etc. but hard work bears fruit in the end. It is tough but eventually it gets easier, especially at a point when you can feel that you are giving your baby the best nutrition you can give.

because she will only give what is best for her baby and to know that 1tsp of breastmilk = 3 Million germ killing cells would not make her give up amidst the challenges.

- What are the challenges of breast feeding?
low supply,
sore nipples and breasts,
painful “daw”
public exposure
won't be able to work or go out without tagging the baby (but thanks to breast pumps, it is not a problem anymore)

- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
Mom you say you only want what is best for your baby then breastfeed!
If you are determine to breastfeed there are solutions to every breast feeding challenges. But that is not what you should think first because among all these challenges there are countless benefits for both mom and the baby when you breastfeed that would outweigh these challenges.

- A lot! sore and cracked nipples, baby won't latch, engorged breasts, feeding baby by demand which left me sleepless. But after all these, the rewards are priceless.
- Continue to breastfeed. All moms are made to nourish a child so excuses like there's no milk coming in, etc. is impossible. And as I said, this is the best thing that we can give to our babies.

- Why should women breast feed?
I believe mothers should breast feed simply for the sake of their babies. It’s an initial and selfless act of revealing your unconditional love for your little ones. It provides the healthiest and natural nutrients and anti bodies to protect infants from all sorts of illnesses.

- What are the challenges of breast feeding?
Challenges of breastfeeding includes physical (soreness of the breasts or nipples, not enough or too much milk and infection), mental (knowledge and devotion of how to properly breastfeed), emotional (strong and joyful bonding between mother and infant) among others. There is also the challenge of time management particularly to those who are working mothers.

- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
The simple reason of providing what is best for your baby is I think the best encouragement for every mom to breast feed. But for figure-conscious moms, they say breast feeding also helps in getting your before-baby-bump figure as well! :)

Why should women breast feed?
*It's the most natural thing in the world that a woman can give to her baby.
*It promotes breastfeeding to other women; it helps them see breastfeeding in a new light and nurture their babies the best way possible.
*Breastfeeding helps you save money on expensive milk formulas that sometimes even cause your babies more harm than good.

What are the challenges of breast feeding?
*The biggest challenge that I see is the culture that we have. In the fast-paced lifestyle that we are taking on now, many see breastfeeding as a hindrance to do more worldly things like work and play, as opposed to the very motherly act of breastfeeding our child.
*Breastfeeding is also viewed as "dyahe" by many in our culture. Sometimes a woman cannot help but be exposed a little when her child is in need of feeding and this turns off many.
*Breastfeeding is not advocated enough in our society, so many are in the dark as to what its benefits are. More are aware of the "troubles" that come with breastfeeding: exposure, hassle, leaky breasts, no milk, not enough milk, baby would not take breast milk, baby would not latch to breast, milk formulas are enhanced so they are better, saggy breasts, painful nipples, and many more excuses that are in fact false, manageable and with solutions, given the proper guidance and information.

What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed?
*Know first the benefits of breastfeeding before you decide. Nobody is forcing you to do anything that you do not want. But don't turn a blind ear just yet. There are so many sources of information now and many are working hard to impart knowledge on the advantages of breastfeeding.
*Don't turn away from this opportunity to give your child the best gift you could ever give: LOVE & LIFE.
*Never give up because the hurdles you will face and conquer in breastfeeding will in turn give your baby the best and most priceless protection he/she can ever get.

I will be a first time mom this October and as early as 8 weeks into my pregnancy I have begun arming myself with information as to how I can best nurture my baby. I have decided then that I WILL BREASTFEED MY BABY, no matter what the challenges are. My own mother is not into the idea of breastfeeding as she couldn't stand the pain and discouraged me when I told her that I wanted to breastfeed her first grandchild. None of my aunts breastfed any of my cousins for reasons of being all busy working mothers. Nobody in my new family as a married woman breastfeeds their small children. I WILL BE THE CATALYST and I will promote this act that gives precious life and priceless health to our little ones.

- Why should women breast feed? Because aside from breast milk being the perfect baby food, the act of breastfeeding is a wonderful thing that mom and baby (and dad!) can share.
- What are the challenges of breast feeding? For me, the challenge was to learn about it without having any breastfeeding models. I was formula-fed since birth and no one in my family breastfed as far as I know. Good thing there are countless resources online.
- What is the best advice one can give to encourage a mom to breast feed? Educate yourself about breastfeeding. Try to breastfeed even if you think it's difficult. Persevere & seek support if you encounter problems along the way. If you've tried everything you can think of and breastfeeding was not a success for you, don't think that it makes you a bad mother. At the end of the day, it's about what is best for both you and your baby.

Part 1:

1. Why Should Women Breastfeed?

Science can provide us so many reasons on why women should breastfeed. However, the most common arguments we hear from people impartial to breastfeeding is how there is nothing wrong with them even if they were formula fed. Being a formula fed baby, I can say that holds true for many of us. But the environmental conditions we have today is far different from when we were born. There are many more toxins in our environment and on our bodies that we take in either consciously or unconsciously. It is in this regard that the importance of breastmilk must be highlighted. Against all the environmental changes around us, one thing that remains constant is the potency of breastmilk since it is the most natural food we can offer our children. It is the food that Mother Nature herself intended that we provide that is free to synthetics. We cannot shelter our children forever and they will inevitably be exposed to the dangers of our environment. The only thing we can do is to ‘stall’ it or give him extra protection from our breastmilk.

The second reason on why women should breastfeed stems from a very personal experience of mine. I lost my first born son to congenital heart defect, a condition that may or may not have been triggered by environmental toxins. During his short, albeit sweet, stay with us and arduous experience of his hospitalization, I was not able to breastfeed properly and had to resort to mixed feedings. I regret not being able to breastfeed but I was helpless to do so in the midst of the insurmountable stress and emotional pain that I felt. This was most evident in his last few days in the hospital when my milk supply ran out and he needed some nutrition. Being strapped on the hospital bed with all the tubes connected to him, I cannot hold my baby. I cannot give the kind of physical comfort that both of us crave at that moment. The only way I can show my love for him was through breastmilk. And it is one of my biggest regrets that at that moment, I failed since I was not able to produce enough breastmilk that he had to be placed on special formula milk which didn’t really provide as much nutrients nor care that he needed at that time. To sum things up, the second reason as to why women should breastfeed is to extend our life and our love to our children. It is an unspoken act of commitment that we will be there for them and take care of them as long as we live.
