In Defense of Longchamp

Don't get me wrong. I own one, everyone in my family owns one, all my friends own one. So I don't have anything against those who own one, because that's also me right there.

Look, it's a great travel bag! I would strongly recommend that you have one in your bag closet because it folds nicely, is waterproof and roomy. So let me put this in context. What I am bothered about is the way some people act like its a most precious thing. Holding it gingerly, sometimes with an affected air. So conscious about it. And this applies not only to Longchamp, but to any bag. Admit it, there's always one girl in your school or office who acts like this.

There is a difference between taking care of your belongings and being exagg about it. There are those who need to have a special seat for their bag, and that's fine, but my friends and I have seen it many times, women who wait for you to look at their bag, because it's a designer bag. Expecting you to be envious about it. That's who I am referring to. The ones who forged their identity to a bag.

Thank you to those who have pointed out that you use Longchamp as pang harabas, as a diaper bag or as a bag to stuff all your essentials, a walang keme bag. That's the spirit! That's the way it is supposed to be, used, abused and loved to bits.

It's my go-to-bag. Everytime I'm in the city, I'm constantly on the move, there's so many things to finish and places to go to. And I just stuff my bag with lots of thing, including my pump, my boncho and all other important items. Even my daughter's teddy bear and baby bottles.

I so agree with your statement that a bag should be 'used, abused and loved to bits'.

A bag is still a bag kahit na mas mahal pa yan sa kotse o bahay, it should serve its purpose.

I own one and I didn't take offense. People need to let go of the "i feel therefore, it's about me" attitude. Lahat pinepersonal eh, hehe =)

If there's a spare seat, I always put my bag in it - designer or otherwise, heehee. Now, off to buy another Longchamp tote - in red this time - at the Saks F&F sale.

Designer or not, I treat my bags as "precious stuff". Like I do with all my other things. I let my things serve its purpose, of course: I put out my crystal glasses to be used everyday, I use my Oneida silver everyday, I use my Louis Vuitton whenever I want (be it the weekend market or to a party), etc. But I do take care of all of them "preciously" because I got them with hard-earned money.

pang harabas bag perfectly describe my longchamp too.:) Actually it is kinda funny when people tell me not to stuff my longchamp full baka daw kasi masira agad. But hey, I didn't pay that big an amount for posterity's sake. I bought it bec. it's supposed to carry 7 kilo tons of weight. Just perfect for my laptop, lunchbox, my students test papers, extra clothes etc. At the end of the day, a bag is still a bag, however cheap or expensive it is. And a bag is for carrying things and not big egos.:) hihi

I get the "stare" when I put my bag on the floor and I even heard one girl say: "Fake lang kasi siguro..." and another one "Burara naman!"

Well, KEBS!

If you're a mom and have a hectic career as well, you tend to carry the entire house, want to be able to move easier and tote everything while either carrying a kid or running after the kid.

Took me 3 good years before I decided to get this bag and I'm not one to complain. I use it almost daily when I can to tote the rest of the stuff I don't want to leave in the car. I have an extra formal / corporate bag with me too.

I am so particular though about the quality when I buy bags like this. So I really scrutinize and check that it doesn't have any defects. I may put it on the floor or some counter top with questionable germ % but hey, its a bag and it's not the end of the world.

Oh by the way, at the right side of your blog, the one labeled MFO at STYLEBIBLE.PH, you are carrying your Celine Luggage oh so gingerly at the crook of your arm. Maybe you can teach us how to casually bring a bag, designer or not, so as not to be labeled by you as "one of those girls who treat their bags so preciously exagg."

i soo agree! I love longchamp because it's very durable...and now that I have a 4 month old boy I discovered that it's a great diaper bag because it's so roomy and lightweight...

What's so wrong about taking care of your stuff??? Luxe or not... Acting like you don't care is so pretentious... Why even bother? Admit it, there's a certain pride of ownership.... But like they say, don't let your stuff own you!

Exactly! Very well said! That's why you're my favorite blogger! :)

to anonymous 332am: i'm sure mahilig ka magpapicture with your bag upfront para makita ng buong mundo na "branded" siya. :D

Tin, i love bags. but they are just bags...and what you said is all so true! No bag can make you better, smarter, or even look prettier. On the contrary they can make you look uncool and baduy, if you are brag about it...
love this post. thanks for posting!

i only have one longchamp and though i love the color (bilberry) i rarely get to use it kasi my pangharabas bag is our 3 yearold baby couture diaper bag haha. however it proved to be useful when we went home last time and i stuffed it with all the excess from one of our carry ons, siguro around 5kgs din yun

some people can't help it. you can see them posing on pictures with their bag bigger than their faces. im not only talking about longchamps but other designer bags as well. but you are right about having to treat your bag as a bag and not identify with it as if your life. but really, life is a mystery and sometimes different people treat their bags differently so we really can't blame them. the debate would go on and on without a never ending story. i think the over all gist here is that there is no right or wrong when it comes to bags ( we all love bags!), the point is we should take care of it as we would take care of our other stuffs. if we are to level our TLC a bit because it comes from hard earned money, nobody should defy us of our ways. in reality, everything is just materialistic in their sense. there is always an end for everything. and yes, i love my longchamp ( not to tell you that i own one but i do ). its a good bag which should serve its purpose.

This is so true.

Its one thing to own designer bags but its another to announce to the world that you have a designer bag.

Well, yeah it does depict your state in life and such but its not enough for you to judge people with it. I hate the mentality of people flaunting their precious bags and treat you like dirt. It just doesn't make sense.
