Smile! Oral Health Month with Colgate & PDA

February was Oral Health Month, and Colgate, together with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), has partnered to raise awareness about the importance of good oral health & proper hygiene. After all, when we practice good oral hygiene, the result is healthy teeth and gums, which are key to our overall well-being.

Because seriously, who wants to be writhing in pain, unable to think or do anything, just because of a massive toothache? Unfortunately, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children and adults. Statistics also show that 9 out of 10 kids have cavities, which is unthinkable, considering that it is preventable with brushing 3x a day, flossing, using mouthwash regularly and visiting the dentist 2x a year.

Last February 16, 2014, Colgate, PDA and Watsons celebrated Oral Health Month at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, and Berry & I got to join in the festivities.

And when I mean festivities, I mean it was truly a real tooth fair!

There were game booths such as this video game where you could brush cavities away.

A ring toss where you get to catch plaque.

And because we got to catch all the plaque, we won travel sized Colgate Plax.

There was a show for kids, Dr. Rabbit & the Tooth Defenders, starring Dr. Rabbit and Dr. Brushwell, who bravely fought to eradicate the Placulus puppets.

And the Colgate Sensitive booth where you could test for tooth sensitivity by biting onto ice cubes.

Customers who bought a Colgate 360 Slim Soft Charcoal toothbrush from the Watson’s booth could get their toothbrush personalized for free.

Here’s a sample, showing the name and the date the toothbrush should be replaced.

It was not all fun and games though. There were serious booths here, like the dark & “scary” booth were they do the plaque test.

Thankfully, when they shined blue light onto Berry’s teeth, she passed with no bacteria in sight!

The most popular booth would have to be the Free Dental Check-up Booth where guests lined up patiently to have a dentist check on their teeth.

Wouldn’t it be great if Colgate and PDA would do this twice a year in malls so that people who otherwise wouldn’t have the means to see a dentist can have their required check-ups done there & then?

An added highlight to the event was a storybook reading activity by model/artist/actress Solenn Heusaff, who undoubtedly added glamour to an event meant to remind parents to teach their kids the importance of good oral hygiene practices.

Then again, there is no glamour in rotten, decayed teeth. In the long run, brushing 3x a day, flossing, using mouthwash regularly and visiting the dentist 2x a year is less costly and less of a hassle than having to suffer in pain and shelling out thousands to get your teeth pulled, have a root canal or replacing teeth with dentures.

After all, an ounce of prevention is always, always, always better than a pound of cure.

I will be taking YS to talicud samal island davao, the non-commercialized part of the island. the time stops when you're there. Pairing the YS flip-flops with maxi summer dress and wide brimmed hat, donya-like sunnies channeling St. Tropez vacation without breaking the bank and whipping out the passport.

I'm taking some time off from work to go with my family to Shangri-La Mactan. It's going to be our first time there and I'm so excited to just enjoy time with my husband and the kiddos.

I wanna wear my Yosi Samras when i get back, after several years, to the place where I've grown up...on the beautiful paradise, Calatagan, Batangas! I am an organizer of a small outreach program there on May, just to serve as a simple thanksgiving for all the blessings I've been receiving these past few years. I want YS to be part of my escapade as I revert again to the past! I remember, when I was young, My parents couldn't afford even a single pair of slippers for me. We didn't even have sufficient money to eat three times a day. We used to received those old things from people whom we personally don't know, but had pity on us. I just grab those academic scholarships just to finished my studies. Now, after several years, I'm ready to show my town mates out there, the fruits of my hardwork and perseverance. YS will definitely make my journey, towards my hometown, comfier, relaxing and memorable! :)

I want to wear my new Yosi Samra flip flops to the grocery, mall, park or play dates with my son. These are my usual "gimmick" places since I quit my corporate job 2 years ago and moved to the province.

I do not have any Yosi Samras yet. I am really hoping this winning pair would help build my YS collection in the future!

I want my Yosi Samra flip flops to take me to an exciting place we've never been to. This summer, other than fun day trips to nearby beaches, my family is hoping to visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the beautiful Banff National Park in Calgary, Alberta. We've heard so many wonderful things about this gorgeous mountain community where you can enjoy nature at its finest, whether you're just a family wanting to take a relaxing break or an outdoor enthusiast ready to take on some adventurous fun. Go on a few easy hikes? Probably! Take leisurely walks through Banff town (in comfy+stylish flip flops)? Definitely! Located high in the Canadian Rockies, it is interesting to note that the town of Banff, the highest town in Canada, was really intended to be a tourist town from its very inception, as stated in one of its visitor websites. Even the town's first street is situated in a way that visitors get the best possible views of one of the mountains. Friends highly recommend that we visit the place during the summer months (especially since we're not into winter sports anyway, hahaha). With two little kids in tow, it's the best time to soak in the views from this lovely town and not worry about getting too cold! Summer weather but with views of snow-capped mountains … sounds perfect to me. Can you imagine living in a place with that unbelievable backdrop? It must be breathtaking!

Of course, YS flip flops will not only be perfect for summer vacations, but for everyday wear. I can just imagine the neutral snake skin pair completing simple outfits as I shuttle my preschoolers back and forth to summer activities in preparation for their first year in kindergarten. Hopefully, it will help me easily pull-off a more polished and comfortable mommy look. /=D

Iam taking my Yosi Samra to the beach,
Where life is a total peach.
To the beach where flats and flipflops adorn the feet,
Where Yosi samra'd feet dance to the rhythm of summer's beat
Glidin, slidin, groovin in style under the summer heat.
