S/S Trends 2008 Part I: The Gladiator Sandal

If there's a particular piece I'm really gung-ho about for S/S 2008, it's the gladiator sandal! Although it has been around for ages (and I mean ages!) it again only came into our realm of consciousness back in 2005, with Kate Moss of course blazing the way...

...and Alexander McQueen coming out with sandals fit for a Warrior Queen!

For S/S 2008, gladiators have gone beyond the blacks and browns and have become way more colorful! As if celebrating a victory over neutrals! Check out these Balenciaga beauties...

Now if only we have great gams to pull it off...hahaha!

But for those who want to go the Greek classics route and get authentic sandals that would make any Greek warrior proud, order these surprisingly affordable sandals from the sandalmaker/poet Stavros Melissinos' son, Pantelis. If you have it shipped to the US, it will cost you only about $40!

There are tons more of gladiator sandals out there that would suit the fashion warrior in you. Seek out the one that calls your name and gear up, it pays to be prepared for battle!

I love, love, love gladiator sandals. They look so good with shorts or a skirt and long dresses. I like the brown one in the first picture. Where is that from? and would you happen to have the link to the authentic one? LOL for $40 thats a pretty good deal for genuine, authentic one.

OT: what can I do to make the front of the shoe less tight? Its an open toe sandal and the toe part is pretty tight. Shoe expanders doesnt do the trick. Thanks!

hahaha I got too excited and didnt see that you have posted the link. Thanks!

Hi Raissa! The brown one in the first picture is from Burberry! And yup, the greek sandals are available at melissinos-art.com =) About the tight open toe sandal, I've read that you can stretch them by rubbing alcohol on the tight areas, or you can soak stockings in water, squeeze out the liquid and wear the wet stocking with the shoe until it dries out. I don't know if these methods really work, but I guess it's worth a try! Especially if you super love those shoes =)

i've seen anne curtis wear a few of these on "Maging Sino Ka Man"...so cute but they look weird on me (or I feel weird in them, not sure which at the moment)...

if its from Burberry then theres a big chance it will be expensive =( well look for something similar but cheaper then LOL

Thanks for the tips. It is indeed worth trying. I love the shoes because I couldnt stop thinking about them that I had to get it. nothing extraordinary about them but just open toe platform sandals. ^_^ it looks chunky but super light. I think wetting it will do the trick since its actually one of the instructions that came with the shoe expander.

Tin, the rubbing alcohol trick really works but shoes must be made of leather. Also, rub the insides (the spots you feel needs some stretching) with a cotton ball soaked with alcohol and wear it until it dries so it conforms to your feet

That's true homaygess, 2005 pa and it seems it is has such staying power that it still is going strong for S/S 08. Then again, it has always been a classic, I mean it's been around since the B.C.s through the A.D.s hehehe!
