Jovovich-Hawk for Target OUT NOW!

I know the Target near our place puts out their GO International stuff earlier than the launch date so I wasn't surprised when I saw these racks out...

It took them a while to clear out the other racks, and while the Target ladies were busy preparing the Jovovich-Hawk for Target section, I approached one of them and asked if I could try on the stuff that they had out. Here's the first part of photos from the Jovovich-Hawk for Target Collection that I've tried on so far. There were more but they hadn't put out the other stuff yet.

Hey, that wasn't a fashion statement ha! I was just too lazy to take my tights off!

These are the times that I am thankful I'm a housewife. I get first dibs on trying out stuff as soon as they come out...But, the styles weren't really me, so I didn't buy anything at all. But I did this for you girls! Enjoy!

Stuck in the Trenches

Now I know why the boutique Impulse Seattle is named such. Because I would pick up these trenches and throw it into my shopping cart just like that. Without giving it a second thought. Really. If I were working right now and earning that is!

I just super love these coats...So perfect for this spring and and yet so classic that they will last me way beyond...sigh...

Junya Watanabe for Comme des Garcons Girly Raincoat in Dark Beige 1450.00

Talk about girly! So gorgeous! And will go with everything! I can imagine wearing it with all my dresses, with skinny jeans and flats, I think it could even work with wide leg jeans and platforms for a truly voluminous look at the bottom half. Ugh! It makes me sick just by looking at it!

A.P.C Navy Trench Coat 471.00

Now this one I've had my eye on for a while, well, since it first came out actually. I just love its simplicity and elegance. Nice to wear when you want to just blend in, but still want to feel good about yourself. I think a nice trench coat like this just evokes that feeling.

Manila on WWD's radar

While talks of a recession is likened to a dark cloud looming on the US horizon, the idea of it forcing consumers here to reassess their expenditures and prompting those who haven't saved enough for the rainy days into a semi-state of panic, Bambina Wise writes about the steaming gleaming spanking luxury retail scene in Manila for WWD. Yes, THE WWD! Hey, it's not just a fashion industry trade journal, it's the Bible of Fashion honeys! Now that's what I call a silver lining!

In Manila: On the Retail Radar, Ms. Wise gets the facts straight from luxury industry players, interviewing the likes of Anton Huang, Rhea de Vera-Aguirre and Jappy Gonzalez, household names among Manila's luxury loving set.

Luxe Goes Local on the other hand tackles local brands and designers, and I can imagine the owners of Irene's Closet, Marni's Room and Ilaya Couture framing this article since they were mentioned here! They were under the radar too! Along with Joji Lloren, Religioso, Dennis Lustico, Ivarluski Aseron and even Bench!

Yes dearies, WWD (and the industry insiders who read it) now know what Filipino consumers knew all along. We are a shopping society. Not only that, there is a market for luxury goods in Manila, and Philippine consumers can't get enough of it. I know for a fact there are those who travel abroad, just to get a healthy shot of Marni and Lanvin, if you know what I mean. So, for all the stories of how backward and desperate things are back home, comes WWD's story on Manila's retail scene. And it's very pretty! (Actually, if you don't read Philippine newspapers and don't watch TV, things back home aren't really as alarming as they seem...)

Fashionistas and luxe lovers, read it and weep - tears of joy. Finally, a validation of your hard-earned spending!

HELP! Where to Go for Hair & Make-up in Makati

...Since you have stayed in Manila for quite some time too, where can I go for hair and make up that is good, but price is not too high? Preferably Makati area please. I hope you can help. Thanks!

I received this question from a reader and I hope we can all help her out! I don't really get try out different salons since I tend to stick to my favorite salon, Hairworks. I go there because they have the best hair colorists and Novi, my threader, has the lightest hands. She's the only threader that I have not had a painful relationship with, so she comes highly recommend. I can bet my eyebrows on that! =)

I hardly wear make-up, even when I go to formal events, so I have not tried their make-up services. So sorry! All in all, I go to Hairworks because I always feel that I get my money's worth whenever I pop in for a haircut, manicure/pedicure, hair coloring or threading. If you'd like to try this salon, it's at:

Ground Level BSA Tower
108 Legaspi St., Legaspi Village
Makati City
Tel. 888-4817, 888-4819, 888-4816

I've also heard of reasonably priced and reputable salons like Tony & Jackey and Razzle Dazzle. These salons have received great reviews so these are worth checking out:

Tony & Jackey
G103 West of Ayala Bldg.
Buendia Avenue
Makati City
Tel: 843-7571, 0906-3659155

Razzle Dazzle Salon
Monday-Saturday 8am-8pm
Sunday 9am-6pm
Ground Floor Frabella Condo
109 Rada St., Legaspi Village
Makati City
Tel. 840-2880, 848-2388 for

I know it is not much help, but if you click here you'll find a comprehensive list of salons in Makati to give you an idea of possible places to go to.

Darn, when it comes to hair and make-up I'm practically useless huh? Really, I'm grasping for words as I type this. I can talk on and on about clothes and accessories, but when it comes to beauty matters, I'm kind of really low maintenance in that sense, hehehe.

So to my dear friends, if any of you have tried and tested salons in Makati, please help us out and tell us all about your favorite salon!

If you've always fancied yourself wearing Balenciaga or Hermes chaussures, but haven't gotten around to buying a pair, just go ahead and break that piggy bank honey. Gap and Mr. Hardy, who designs footwear for Balenciaga and Hermes, and his own label of course, is making it cheap and easy for us to wear Pierre Hardy designed gladiator sandals, flats, boots, wedges and heels. Take note though, only 75 Gap stores will be carrying his collection, so do your research and make sure you're going to the "right" Gap so you can get your grubby hands on these babies!

A Well Balanced Meal...

Vegetables? Lettuce, Check!
Fruits? One tomato, jalapeno peppers and salsa, check!
Protein? Ground beef, Check!
Dairy? Hot Pepper Jack cheese and sour cream, Check!
Junk Food? Corn chips, Check! (Yeah because I'm a dirty little devil like that!)

Check out the taco salad that I prepared for lunch:

And yes, I wiped the plate clean all by myself!

So yeah, you might have noticed my shopping and fashion posts are dwindling by the minute. Its just that going out or surfing the net just makes me want to spend spend spend! You know, you see things you absolutely have to have. The kind where you can't sleep because you start thinking of how that one last article of clothing or that one final accessory will elevate your wardrobe to a whole higher level. Then you find yourself buying it, and as soon as you get it, you realize there is another thing you just absolutely NEED. Really, the cycle of covetousness never ends.

Hence, I find myself focusing my energy in the kitchen instead. I kinda like it though. Gives me a sense of accomplishment in a way. I mean, Dear Hubby pretty much primed himself on living on a diet of pizza, Dinty Moore beef stew, greasy fastfood burgers and Chinese take out. But no, I told him I will be preparing all our meals by scratch! Of course it was a struggle at first because he knew that I never ever cooked so he probably thought he would be eating tasteless cardboard-y dinners. But well, I changed his mind as soon as I prepared my first experimental recipe! Hahaha! Yeah, watching Wok With Yan and Nora Daza on TV when I was little surely paid off! I've always liked watching people do their thing in the kitchen, so I guess I kinda absorbed all their tricks into my system! ;)

Although, preparing a salad isn't exactly cooking. Heehee!

Anyway, while running errands this afternoon, I found myself dropping by the local Old Navy. Again. Because I'm really liking their safari inspired pieces...not that I'm buying or anything. I just find it comforting to window shop. Weird I know...

Safari Romper in Khaki $29.50

Cropped Safari Jacket $29.50

Safari Shirt Dress in Indian Clay $34.50

Patch Pocket Shirt Dress in Dark Toast $25

Inspired by what I've seen, I played dress up using existing items from my closet!

BEFORE:

Brown Puffer Vest: Alice + Olivia
Striped Sweater: Zara
Scarf: Gift
Jeans: Citizens of Humanity
Sneakers: Converse

AFTER:

Leopard Print Sweater: Topshop
Safari Dress: Diane Von Furstenberg
Gray Tights: Target
Nude Wedges: Chloe

You likes? I likes because I did not spend on a single darn thing today! Woohoo! Now if only spring has sprung, then I can get rid of the tights. So cold these days, Brrrr!

Sharing My Outfit Day

I dunno with you guys, but I really like the little neck bow of my top.

My outfit looks dark/drab, but it's just because there is hardly any light out. Trust me when I say I think it looks charming, hehehe! So, what do you think? You like pussy bow tops too?

A Homecooked Meal for Valentine's Day

Dear Hubby and I aren't really into Valentine's Day, we sort of find it a bit cheesy and commercial, besides, everyday is Valentine's Day for us! Heehee!

Anyway, he still asked me if I wanted to eat out, and I told him I would rather prepare our Valentine's Day meal. A lovingly prepared homecooked meal beats out a fancy feast at Le Bernardin in my opinion! A whole lot cheaper too! Mwahaha!

I did my grocery shopping after lunch, so that everything I served for dinner would still be "fresh". Here's what I whipped up for V Day!

Salad: Mix of Romaine & Red Leaf Lettuce with Parmesan & Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing
Soup: Lobster Bisque
Entree: Angus Beef Steak
Side Dishes: Baked Potato with Hot Pepper Jack cheese and sour cream, corn & carrots, italian bread roll
Dessert: Chewy Walnut Brownies

Yummy no? Best of all, Dear Hubby loved everything I served! =)

Forgive the table setting, DH likes to eat his soup with his meal, and he doesn't want to be bothered with bread plates (additional dishes to wash...) I know it's not exactly a culinary feat, but considering that I never cooked my whole life prior to going here, it's a pretty big deal don't you think? As my friend Cons would say, "Snaps for Tintin!", hahaha!

Cheap Thrills Part Deux

Monday morning was freezing like it was nobody's business to be out and about. But I had a fashion trade fair to go to and I wasn't going to flake on my friend just because of icy winds and bone chilling temperatures...

So anyway, we met up at her office lobby in Midtown Manhattan and after a hearty salad at Chop't on West 52nd Street, headed for Pier 94, where Coterie (clothing and accessories) and Sole Commerce (shoes) were ensconced.

The Coterie line-up was pretty impressive, although I would say its more of for the mature market. Think Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, Anne Klein, Tahari Suits, Cole Haan, you get my drift. The only stalls that excited me were that of Marimekko and Gerard Darel. (Does this mean the latter label will finally have more presence here? I mean, Gerard Darel bags are everywhere in Paris, apparently almost all French girls supposedly have one, but its pretty much hard to find here!)

For those not familiar with Gerard Darel, it is a family-run clothing and accessories company established in France in 1971. But the label is best known for their 24-hour, 36-hour and 48-hour bags. It also helps that it has French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg as it's spokesmodel and muse. If genes were the sole determinant in making a bag a classic, then GD bags might as well claim iconic status because Charlotte's mother is Jane Birkin, yes she of the Hermes Birkin bag fame.

Just to pique your interest, here's a teaser of what the basic 24-hour bag (called the Saint-Germain) looks like...although this basic shape comes in different styles, materials and colors...

...plus a drool worthy piece made of shiny python skin called Hollywood, that I just have to add to my growing wishlist...

The designs are quite simple really , with drawstrings and some ruching for a bit of that boho flavor that French girls are known for. You like?

Ok, back to the trade fair review. I think the best section at Pier 94 was the shoe trade fair section! Hehehe! (Of course, I love shoes although I have to seriously cut down on purchases this year. Actually, I am targeting to buy just one last pair this year and THEN I'm really done! I realize that I just have too many pairs of shoes that I don't even get to use here, and to think that I have lots more back home! This calls for a shoe closet clean out sale very soon!) If you like footwear from BCBG (Max Azria and BCBGirls), Betsey Johnson, Camper, Castaner (espadrilles), Chie Mihara, Delman, French Sole, Frye (boots), London Sole, L.A.M.B., Missoni, Rafe New York, and Sam Edelman, then this is the sort of place that will get your heart thumping! My most fabulous find here, the sort that I can't get out of my head was Mystique. They make these gorgeous capri sandals...

One thing I realized from going to a trade show such as this is that there are so many pieces that buyers can pick from, but ultimately, there's a budget they have to work with and a market that they are shopping for, that its such a shame that some products that were designed with equal care and attention will not make it to the shop floor. Really, buyers are a vital part of a retail business. A discerning buyer has to consider sell-through among many things, so they have to pick items that will sell fast and sell well, but they also have to balance salability with a well-edited, fashion forward collection so that customers don't get bored. That's what sets apart shopping institutions like Lane Crawford, Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, and net-a-porter (in my opinion at least), they can pick out the cream of the crop, and sniff out a trend way before others can, hence selling out items faster than they can order it.

Oh, and here's the thing for F/W 2009. Most of the stuff you see now will still be around, if I were to base it on what I've seen so far: flat and heeled boots, wedges, platforms, pumps, gladiator sandals, ballet flats, nothing new really. Except that they come in a variety of skins, prints and colors. Still, what a relief right?

Thing was, everything seemed the same (shoes, coats, sweaters, dresses, gowns, suits...) and there was nothing really new that set our hearts racing, so my friend and I decided to skip The Javits Center venue and headed for Fifth Avenue. For window shopping only of course!

Best find? The Repetto Bardo ballet flats in metallic purple for $93 (60% off baby!)

Close runner-up is this J Brand capri jeans with a 25" inseam...for petites like my friend and I, these jeans stop right at the ankles, so they're like denim leggings, perfect for slipping into boots, no alterations necessary! Still cute when worn with flats and sexy when paired with heels!

That's why my friend and I made a date to go back to Barneys this Friday. She's coming back for these jeans! Heehee!
