Olay Regenerist Pre-Sale

Filipinas got a sneak preview of Olay’s premium anti-ageing line through the recently held Olay Regenerist One-Day Pre-Sale last October 18, 2008 and it looks like women can't wait for the November launch!

The highly anticipated Pre-Sale had over a thousand women signing up for the Pre-Sale priority list when it opened only two weeks ago. And more lined up at SM and Watson’s for their first taste of the globally-awarded, breakthrough anti-ageing product.

Four Olay Regenerist products were available during the Pre-Sale: Regenerating Serum; Regenerating Cream, with SPF 15; Night Firming Cream; and Eye Lifting Serum, all priced at Php999.

The Pre-Sale certainly satisfied the curiosity of women who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Olay’s most premium line yet, which included not only beauty-philes who were curious about this well reviewed product line but even women who’ve heard about Olay Regenerist via their relatives or friends abroad.

“Actually, Regenerist already has quite a following here in the Philippines,” said Gloria Nieto, the Country Marketing Manager of Procter & Gamble, makers of Olay. “Filipina women who have experienced it from their trips in the United States, UK, China, Australia and Singapore love it and always ask their relatives and friends abroad to bring some home for them. So even before our November launch, there’s already been quite a bit of buzz so we wanted to cater to those women through this exclusive Pre-Sale.”

Olay Regenerist represents a revolution in anti-ageing as it utilizes the science behind laser treatments to give women dramatically younger-looking skin.

Laser anti-ageing treatments actually make use of the skin’s wound-healing ability to reduce lines and wrinkles. They deliberately create micro-wounds in the skin cells, triggering the production of amino-peptides, which instruct the skin to produce proteins like collagen and elastin that result in firmer, smoother skin.

Olay Regenerist contains an exclusive Amino-Peptide Complex that includes pal-KTTKS, an amino-peptide potent enough to stimulate the production of structural proteins and trigger a boost in collagen levels all by itself, thereby mimicking the effects of laser therapy. Together with Carnosine, a powerful amino-peptide antioxidant, and a potent combination of proven anti-ageing ingredients such as Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Allantoin, Pro-Vitamin B5, vitamin E and Green Tea Extract, Olay Regenerist can be a woman’s laserless anti-ageing solution

“For women who aren’t quite ready for clinical treatments, Olay Regenerist can be an option because it harnesses the same science of cell regeneration behind laser treatments to reduce lines and wrinkles. Imagine if you could have this power of laser at your fingertips.” explained Nieto.

Olay made its anti-ageing debut in the Philippines in 2006 when it introduced its anti-ageing line Total Effects, which helps fight 7 signs of skin ageing in just 1 bottle. This was followed by Olay White Radiance in 2007. Olay Brand Ambassadors, Miriam Quiambao for Total Effects and Isabelle Diaz-Daza for White Radiance, graced the Regenerist Pre-Sale, ushering in the newest addition to the Olay line-up.

“We are delighted with the people’s response to this one day Pre-Sale and we’re hoping for a similarly warm reception as we launch this in November. We will also reveal the new Olay ambassador, who will join Miriam and Isabelle in the Olay family,” said Nieto.

“This is a very exciting time for us – the brand has only been here for two years but being number one in the Philippines’ anti-ageing skin segment has allowed us to continually broaden our horizons, letting us help more and more Filipinas love the skin they’re in. What’s great about the launch of Olay Regenerist is that we will be able to reach a whole new group of women – women who are knowledgeable about their skin, who wants dramatic results and a complete and advanced anti-ageing regimen,” she added.

And for those who missed out on the Pre-Sale, watch out as Regenerist hits the shelves this November at major personal care stores, drugstores, department stores, and supermarkets nationwide.

Just When We Thought SM's Got It All...

...they're bringing in MORE! So if you haven't been inside SM lately, I think it's high time you went back for a visit!

SM recently started bringing in US brands to improve their selections and give their customers more merchandise to choose from. So if you happen to walk into the ladies section inside SM Makati or SM Megamall and you see BCBGeneration, Max and Cleo, Kensie Girl, Tokidoki, and Harajuku Lovers, remember, you are not in the twilight zone. Don't be surprised too if you see shoes from Sam Edelman (SM Megamall), Matt Bernson (these two make the coolest gladiator sandals), Charles David (SM Makati only for now), and Chinese Laundry and accessories from Tokidoki and Betsey Johnson.

If you think this is exciting enough, there are more brands coming in like Report, Me Too, Corso Como, Dolce Vita, Steve Madden (including hosiery i.e. tights, leg warmers etc!), Deux Lux, Via Spiga, Sequoia Paris and Pan Am (remember those ubiquitous Marc Jacobs designed Pan Am bags that were all the rage last year? Same company! UPDATE: currently available in SM Megamall). Disney Couture Jewelry, Nicole Miller, ABS Allen Schwartz and Adrienne Vittadini are also in the pipeline.

Looks like SM is evolving from its low-priced mass market roots and conquering new retail territory! I mean seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if ten years down the road, SM becomes Manila's version of Saks Fifth Avenue. (Not that they want to now - mass market is big business, but hey, Barneys was a second hand suits mecca in its early days!)

Now here's the best deal! Because this is SM, you can expect prices to still be reasonable. Prices are pegged at US retail, if not cheaper! For instance, Matt Bernson footwear retail here for $170-$180 but you can get it at SM starting at P4950. Seriously. (As for these KM gladiators below, these are P7650 according to AEC!)

But you better make your move right away, there's only one per size per style for this line! Then again, there's more to choose from anyway. You'll be in for a pleasant surprise at SM, that's for sure!

Plan on Buying a Planner?

The Belle de Jour Power Planner is back! The 2009 edition takes inspiration from the groovy '70s and includes 60 coupons that come in a notepad/coupon holder--so you can take your coupons anywhere even if you don't have your planner with you!

Categories like “Me” Time, and “I’m Grateful For” List are important reminders that there's more to life than deadlines and to do lists! There's also the "Expense Tracker", a useful tool that serves as the planner's built in shopping conscience! (Girls, don't you dare tear out this page!)

You can now pre-order through the Belle de Jour site or you can email the BdJ girls at ilovebdj@belledejourpowerplanner.com.

My Interview with Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes

I love love love reading Jane's blog Sea of Shoes because I am just amazed with how naturally she lives and breathes style...and of course, because of all the eye candy in her closet!

So I unabashedly requested for permission to interview her for my column in On The Radar (in today's Philippine Star), the result of which is this...

So what else did I find out about her? That she is the sweetest, nicest, most down to earth girl ever! (I'd be a total snob if I were in her shoes, heehee just kidding!) She is just so gorgeous inside and out and she deserves all the nicest shoes in the world season after season!

P.S. Thanks for scanning this Grace! You're the best! =)

Style SOS: What to Wear to Philippine Fashion Week?

Hi MFO!

I got a free invite to watch one of the shows in the coming Philippine Fashion Week. It would be my first time to go and I have no idea what to wear. What would be perfect for an eighteen year old like me? Thanks! :)

- M

Thanks for your question M! That's going to be a wonderful experience! Usually, people here in New York wear something from the designer whose show they are attending, but back there at home I think that's not really necessary, although it would be nice. I suggest that you just wear something a little dressy, maybe a dress with pretty flats or heels, cropped trousers and a paper thin tee, a blazer with a mini, or anything that fits the "look" of the designer! Don't forget to accessorize with this season's statement pieces (whether it be costume jewelry, structural shoes or breezy scarves!)

Here are some interesting outfits from Garance Dore to go through for inspiration...

When all else fails, you can always wear an all black ensemble! You can just say you're going for the New York fashion crowd look! =)

Shopping SOS: Where to Shop in Hong Kong

Hi MFO! Where are good fashion haunts in Hong Kong? Nice but affordable clothes and accesories especially ballet flats? Also, which mall houses the most variety of branded boutiques to window shop and buy an expensive piece or two? Thank you for your help.

Answer to follow! Feel free to share your shopping spots Hong Kong habitués! ;-)

Shopping SOS: Seamless Style

Hi Ms. Tin,

I need your help. I bought a dress for a wedding and I don't know what I should wear under to hide the bulges and my panty line! HELP!

Ms. P

There is only one person who can save you Ms. P! It's Sara Blakely! She's the smart and savvy entrepreneur behind the popular body shapers from Spanx and Assets (the more affordable yet equally effective line)!

While both lines carry slimming shapers that will smoothen out bulges and eliminate panty lines, I would suggest that you go for either the Assets Sensational Shaper, Unbelievable Underwear or Fantastic Firmers Mid-thigh Shaper. Why? Simply because the Assets line is cheaper, and well, comes from the same designer anyway.

Sensational Shapers minimize your waistline and improve your rear view. It's a "high-waisted mid-thigh shaper that comfortably smoothes the midriff, tummy, thighs, and rear for a sensationally smooth figure with curves in all the right places". Its patented no leg band design is invisible under clothing; so you can actually wear it every day as underwear under skirts or dresses!

If you want to "improve your "bottom line", you can do so with Unbelievable Underwear Mid-thigh Shapers. You can comfortably shape, smoothen and firm your tummy, hips, thighs and rear and at the same time lose the look of unsightly panty lines… As the Assets marketing folks say, "The only thing you’ll see in your rear view is an unbelievable you!"

Fantastic Firmers' uniquely designed inner lining visually firms your tummy, thighs and rear, providing the best control where you need it most. The silky fabric and flat edges keep you looking sleek while the bonded legband prevents thigh bulge.

Now if you are wearing something sheer and chiffon-y, or tight fitting ala Herve Leger bandage dresses, the Hide & Sleek Full Slip from Spanx is your best bet. "It is made of comfortable, slick fabric that won't cling to your clothes."

If it's a strapless dress we're talking about, then the Hide & Sleek Strapless Full Slip is what you need. "The double-layer top offers light support giving you the option of going braless and the light compression smoothes and firms through the mid-thigh."

In the Philippines, if I am not mistaken, Spanx is available in Rustans. Assets is available by pre-order through Shopspot (to borrow from Mrs, Jackie T, shameless plugging! Haha!). Hope this helps Ms. P!

Our Gossip Girl Tour

When Grace of Divasoria told me she was going to New York, I immediately thought of going around the city with her to do a little bit of shopping. But she had a better idea in mind! A Gossip Girl tour!

So we met up on the East Side, armed with a checklist of places to visit. We "subwayed" and walked our away around the city going through some of Serena, Blair, Nate, Chuck and Dan's hotspots in between gossiping (of course!) and obsessing about stuff we wanted so bad! Hahaha!

We had fun doing this and I'm sure you'll enjoy her article! It's out today in the Philippine Star!

Love Mary Kate and Ashley's Style?

Then read all about their influences here...

In a statement released by their publisher Penguin, the coffee table book will feature "exclusive photographs of Ashley and Mary-Kate from world renowned photographer Rankin, and a wide variety of other never-before-seen materials and interviews from Mary-Kate and Ashley's personal collections."

The girls interviewed the people who have inspired them, "with the hope that they will inspire and teach others" as well.

The Gallos Laid the Golden Goose

Speaking of old clothes, you know, there's actually a lot of charm in lived-in clothes and shoes. So much so that people pay big bucks just to wear shredded tees, torn boyfriend jeans...and these Golden Goose "vintage" boots.

I've been seeing Golden Goose boots in Barneys for quite some time now and I have to admit, I first thought these boots were way overpriced. I mean come on, they may be handmade in Italy, but to retail for over $1000 and look these worn? But I decided just yesterday that I now find these charming! Especially when I found out that these are super comfy! And I am a major sucker for comfort that comes with style!

It wouldn't hurt if I add Golden Goose shirts to my wish list (take note, this is just a wish list and not a shopping list! Haha!) too. According to Vogue, Alessandro and Francesca Gallo, the couple behind Golden Goose, got their tailor friend in Venice to use 100-year-old techniques to do all the seams and finishing. The buttons are exact reproductions of vintage buttons, and some shirts are made of super soft cotton hand-loomed in India.

Suffice it to say, once these Wall Street jitters are over, consider my goose cooked!

Sharing My Outfit Day: Not Dear Hubby's Shirt

Although it looks like it! Heehee!

To make it more girly, but still androgynous, I paired it with an old grandpa cardigan. I pushed back the sleeves to expose my shirt, because this outfit is all about the shirt!

The only thing that's missing here is an army field jacket and this would be so perfect! I've seen nice ones in the boys section of H&M but I'm not giving in any time soon because I'm really not in the mood to shop you see. The economic climate is so tenuous it just doesn't make sense at this time. Sigh. So yeah, everything in this outfit is old, but we still need to look stylish right?

How's this bar stool for an accessory? Hahaha!

Shirt: Uniqlo
Cardigan: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Jeans: Grab
Sneakers: Converse Chuck Taylor

MFO Page Six: Topshop SoHo Blues (And It's Not Denim)

This isn't from Page Six of The New York Post, but the news is just as juicy!

A tipster pointed out the likely reason why Topshop's SoHo store opening has been moved to March 2009, and not November 2008 as publicized (well, it was supposed to be mid of this month before that - I tried to get a closer shot of the upper floors and from what I can see, it really won't be ready anytime soon).

It seems the old contractor's building permit was revoked, forcing management to turn over construction to a new contractor. Now apparently, the old contractor is not going down without a fight. Which leaves Topshop embroiled in a legal tussle! How true is this? We really don't know.

What we all know is, what the heck! Just settle and get this over with you guys! We need a Topshop here desperately!

Olay Introduces Regenerist with a One-Day Pre-Sale!

You all must be familiar with Olay Total Effects, that miracle product "which fights 7 signs of skin ageing in just 1 bottle" right? As if that wasn't enough, this November 2008, Olay will be bringing to the Philippines its premium anti-ageing line Regenerist - known around the world for its ability to dramatically reduce lines and wrinkles.

"Olay Regenerist represents a revolution in anti-ageing as it goes beyond skin care to cell care, giving women dramatically younger looking skin. Inspired by clinical treatments, it helps regenerate your skin at the cellular level of the epidermis through its unique Amino-Peptide Complex, which penetrates and renews skin cell by cell. It also offers a complete line-up of products, from cleanser to night cream, so you can enjoy Regenerist’s dramatic anti-ageing benefits at every stage of your skincare regimen."

But here's the better news! We can all get first dibs on Olay Regenerist and we don't have to wait until next month! If you swing by Watsons in Mall of Asia this Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 12:30pm-4pm , you get to buy Olay Regenerist before it hits the stores through the Olay Regenerist One-Day Pre-Sale!

More than that, you'll get to discover this latest breakthrough in anti-ageing straight from Olay’s Country Marketing Manager, Gloria Nieto and Olay’s Brand Ambassadors, Miriam Quiambao and Isabelle Diaz-Daza.

From F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Crazy Sunday"

I picked up this book at the sale section outside Bibliography Bookshop a couple days ago...

And while reading Crazy Sunday in the subway, I was pleasantly surprised to read this line...

Joel could not get to the dinner. Self-conscious in his silk hat against the unemployment, he waited for others in front of the Hollywood Theatre and watched the evening parade: obscure replicas of bright, particular picture stars, spavined men in polo coats, a stomping dervish with the beard and staff of an apostle, a pair of chic Filipinos in collegiate clothes, reminder that this corner of the Republic opened to the seven seas, a long fantastic carnival of young shouts which proved to be a fraternity initiation. The line split to pass two smart limousines that stopped at the curb.

This coming from the great F. Scott Fitzgerald at that! I can imagine though, at the time he wrote this story (the book is a collection of his short stories written between 1920-1937), Filipinos were really a stylish lot! I remember seeing pictures of my maternal grandpa Lolo Cesar, with his cousins and friends in the 1920s, wearing tennis whites (and to think they were living in Pila, a small town in Laguna!) or lounging about their living rooms in summer suits and two tone oxfords. Those were the days when people really dressed up and looked so chic and glamorous without even trying!

Oh, and Bibliography Bookshop was selling/accepting orders for hard bound editions of Candace Bushnell's new book One Fifth Avenue at 20% off! You all have got to read this! If only to derive amusement out of the crazy (but sadly all too real) characters in this story!

Style SOS: Corporate Dressing 1 & 2

1. Hi...I just would like to ask for tips on how can I dress for work? I'm a bit heavy in the upper part of the body. Hehe. I work an 8-5 job in the Central Business District of the Philippines...Hope you could help me style myself. Thanks.

2. Hi CD.

Can you help me out?

I just graduated from college so I am a little at a loss as to what clothes to invest in now.

I'm going corporate. Can you suggest wardrobe must-haves (especially shoes and tops that'll work with the unpredictable weather in the Philippines)? No sleeveless allowed unfortunately. :)

Thanks!

-Ice

Thanks for your questions too! I've been out of the corporate scene for over a year now so I've asked Grace Velasco, banker, blogger, and Radar girl who writes the column Divasoria (same title as her blog!) for permission to re-print her piece on power dressing which was published last September 21 in The Philippine Star's On The Radar section! It's a stellar piece that tackles the often asked question, "What does a girl wear to work?" Read on!

Every day, working women everywhere wake up and wonder "what should I wear today?" It's not that easy to incorporate fashion and work-appropriate outfits.

The biggest challenge for any driven, ambitious and stylish corporate woman is to learn how to express her femininity while projecting an air of power and leadership.

Honestly, it's so easy for men. Men's work wear is basically fool proof. You rarely hear about a man being sidelined because he dressed inappropriately. In fact, a recent Wall Street Journal article likened the male wardrobe to armor: it disguises body parts while sending subtle signals.

A "gusot mayaman" barong could mean "hard-working and no-nonsense." A blue chambray button-down could mean "efficient and calculating." And a custom-tailored shirts could mean "blue chip board member."

Women, on the other hand, don't have the luxury of determining their own fashion codes, which leads to a bigger chance of making mistakes.

So what's a girl to do?

The best advice a mentor gave me was to dress as if you were the boss. Makes sense, right? It's a lot like the philosophy
behind The Secret — being the boss is the goal.

Start by looking at all the women on the upper echelons of the corporate ladder. They wear finely tailored suits, modest necklines with deliberate yet elegant scarves and bold necklaces. This may look ordinary or generic to the untrained eye but there are subtle hints of flair such as the curve of a collar, the twist of the jewelry, the texture of the blouse. The emphasis is focused on style, not fashion.

With that in mind, here are five wardrobe cornerstones every working woman must have:

The white button-down shirt. Sounds clichéd but very important. Choose something in cotton. No stretchy or shiny fabrics, no stiff collars or ruffles. Just a plain, white button-down shirt with a perfect fit that's neither too tight nor too big.

Black trousers. Make it two pairs, one slim and one wide-leg. The slim pants should be close to the body but not tight and no camel-toe, please. The wide-leg ones should be long enough to cover half of your heel when you wear high-heeled shoes.

Black pumps. Personally, I prefer really tall shoes because it's either you go flat or wear three-inch-plus heels. Two-inches are pointless, in my opinion. Also pick shoes with a rounded or square toe since they're more comfortable.

The black pencil skirt. Pencil skirts are versatile and can be worn from day to night. Choose one that is, again, close to the body but not too tight. The length should graze the knee as suggested by French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. I read somewhere that she only wears knee-length skirts as it flatters women of all sizes, and I believe her.

The tailored blazer. Another versatile piece you can wear to work or play. Get something that is of quality material, a perfect fit and preferably with two or three buttons. It'll make any woman look long and lean.

Sounds basic right? The difference lies in how the pieces fit your body and how you make it your own.

I like scarves, necklaces, pins and brooches to add femininity. I take cues from style pegs like Coco Chanel, Katharine Hepburn and Diane Keaton in Annie Hall. All these women love to mix and match masculine and tailored clothes with feminine touches.

Mothers and Daughters

Since we are on the subject of Comptoir de Cotonniers, and with Cosmopolicious expressing her love for the label's mother and daughter campaign (which I planned on writing about but then it slipped my mind in the flurry of my daily activities - a nicer way of saying I may have ADHD heehee, thanks for the reminder Cosmo!) I'm sharing with you these beautiful photos of real life mothers and daughters plucked out from their daily lives and turned into Comptoir des Cotonniers brand ambassadors...

Each season, for the last ten years or so, Comptoir des Cotonniers embarks on a casting call to look for the mothers and daughters who will grace their next season's ad campaign. Which I think is a genius move since:

1) The label "attempts to appeal to both chic mothers and their fashion-forward daughters" as per NYMag,

2) Every girl, whether she likes it or not, is somehow influenced by her mother's taste and choices in clothes and accessories - she either follows it to the letter, goes the opposite direction and rebels totally, or more often than not, if it isn't generally the case, takes bits and pieces from her mother's wardrobe and makes it her own.

So really, the ties that bind go well beyond the physical and emotional, but also the sartorial. Whether it be satin ribbons, leather belts, silk twillys, organic hemp ropes, or whatever it is a girl grows up seeing and feeling.

Here are more photos from past campaigns!

P.S. A Shout Out to Mom!

Mom, I know you just learned to surf the net recently, and have spent several days reading my blog from start to finish. I think it's very sweet of you to follow my blog and I just want to let you know, everything I learned about style - restraint, discipline, quality, elegance and an appreciation and desire to achieve French chic, I got from you! I know I have frustrated you at times, like when I wanted lace socks ala Madonna when I was 7, and you insisted on proper, boring St. Michael knit socks (you were ahead of our time, by high school, all the girls in school were wearing them!). How I wanted patent shoes from SM like my classmates, and you would go for Buster Browns. How infuriated you were with me, when I was a "rebellious teenager" and I would wear Dad's shirts and spend my allowance on clunky Doc Martens and Girbaud and Gaultier jeans two sizes too big. Oh! And that whole period when I was in my early 20s and I would walk out the door clumsily in heels, when you insisted so many times that kitten heels are more appropriate for my petite frame.

Mom, I'm older and wiser now, and you'll be happy to know I've gone back to my roots and keeping in mind all you have taught me. But I won't lie, sometimes I just can't resist a little fringe here and there, and yes, I still spend all my money on clothes and shoes and all that. I know you're an advocate of saving and being frugal, that's one lesson from you I'm still working on! Heehee! I love you Mom!!!

Dear readers, check out my stylish mom! Sorry to Dianne, Nic and Drew for posting your childhood photos! Consider yourselves collateral damage! Heehee!

UPDATE: My mom told me to please please point out that these pictures were taken ten years ago in the midst of a Euro roadtrip, hence their tired, bedraggled appearance! And that they look better now! How vain no? Just kidding! Hehehe!
