I love going to Mitsuwa, the Japanese grocery near our place. I love their "beauty section" especially! Because I just love love love Japanese beauty products. I swear by Shiseido's sunscreen and make-up and use it up to now. However, I've relegated my SK-II skincare line to the recesses of my beauty cabinet when my Japanese friend Shizuka introduced me to other Japanese beauty labels like Kracie (Kanebo) and Kose, which are way cheaper and best of all, available at Mitsuwa! Yup! The grocery store!
Yesterday, I went to Mitsuwa with my friend Paz and her pretty baby Carissa, and guess what I found while we were combing over each and every beauty product in the grocery store aisle!
Because it was Shiseido, I just had to buy it and see what their shampoo would be like! When I got home to do my research, turns out Tsubaki (which means Camellia in Japanese -- the strength and sign of Japanese beauty) shampoo is one of the best-selling shampoos in Japan today. In fact, according to this Japanese student's blog, Tsubaki has surpassed sales of Japan's best selling shampoo for the last 6 years! Poor Unilever and their "Lux Super Rich" shampoo!
According to evecare.com, "Shiseido Tsubaki [Camellia] Oil has a historical presence among Japan's hair care materials. Recent scientific studies have shown Camellia Oil's effectiveness in hair. Shiseido Camellia oil, made from camellia seeds, has been used in Japan for over a hundred years. Camellia oil keeps moisture in your hair intact and protects from sun burn!"
Because of this I guess, Shiseido's original Camellia (trademarked in 1915, with their most popular product being the Camellia Hair Oil) has returned in the form of the Tsubaki line!
Tsubaki's brand ambassadors are Japanese beauties Yukie Nakama, Rena Tanaka, Takako Uehara , Ryoko Hirosue, Arisa Mitsuki, Yuko Takeuchi. The theme song of the Tsubaki shampoo commercial is “Dear Woman” by SMAP (acronym for Sports and Music Assemble People, uh yes, it doesn't make sense to me but I guess it does in Japan!), a popular singing group in Japan. Talk about an all star cast!
Here's the Tsubaki commercial for you to enjoy!
Ok, gotta take a shower now! Can't wait to use my new shampoo! Hahaha!
