Although NY Fashion Week officially started today, the shows actually started yesterday - September 4, and while I could have gone to the Rachel Roy show yesterday; I had some urgent errands to attend to and had to skip it! Boohoo!
Today though, I kept my schedule clear to see the BCBG Max Azria SS09 collection at the Bryant Park tents this morning...
I clutched my invite like my life depended on it, and approached the tents with wide-eyed amazement and excitement - as if I was seven and going inside a circus tent for the first time, heehee!
I passed by curious tourists and photographers patiently waiting by the steps for celebrities to make their way in...
Not too far away from photographers were interesting characters such as this guy, who was milling about the entrance, willing to do and wear anything to get his photo taken...
And he was quite successful too because as I was about to pass him by, he gamely struck a pose as one guy from the press took his picture!
As I entered the tent, there was a booth giving away free magazines like Fortune, Time Style & Design, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, New York, Sportswear International, etc.
And there were free drinks galore from Evian and BAWLS Guarana too!
Of course, Mercedes is a big sponsor so they had their cars on each side of the entrance prominently on display. This one here was on the left side, and the Mercedes guy thoughtfully moved out of my way so I can get a clear shot for you dear readers, hehe...
As I showed my invite to layers of black suited guys (security was pretty tight! much tighter than Malacanang in fact!) they waved me into the BCBG hall where I was relegated to the standing room only section (ah well, beggars can't be choosers now can we?). Which gave me a birds eye view of everything (now that's looking at the bright side of things, hahaha!)
How I wished I could take one of those seats in the middle of the runway! Maybe next year?! Or next season?! Hahaha!
As soon as the seats filled up...
The lights dimmed...
And then pitch black darkness enveloped the hall. In a couple of seconds, the lights came back on, brighter than ever and the models started walking down the runway...
In ten minutes or so, a parade of models who pretty much looked alike with their perfectly blowed out hair, swooshed down the runway to mark the end of the show and to pave the way for Mr. and Mrs. Azria to take their bows...
Let me tell you, it's all about the jumpsuits, slinky, drape-y goddess dresses and gowns in glorious jewel tones, and ferocious shoes at the BCBG show! I can't wait for the photos to come out in style.com so you can see what I am talking about here!
Oh, and of course, I remembered to take photos of some of the stylish folks I've seen today. There were a lot more actually, but some were too intimidating to approach, especially since I only had my trusty Sony Cybershot point and shoot, and I didn't have a fancy camera with which I could pretend to be a Japanese/Chinese press person, hahaha!
A couple more days to go till NY Fashion Week ends, so watch out for more news straight out of the shows! Oh, and for those who are interested to know how it feels like to work in fashion, wait for my interview with Bernice Lim, an FIT grad, who is currently interning for Elizabeth & James! She'll be sharing with all of us her experience as a fashion student and intern here in New York!
