Digital Fashion Week Singapore 2013: British Exchange with Coast by Opera

If you've been following me on Instagram (@christinedychiao), you would have known that I was super lucky to be flown into Singapore by Opera Software for Digital Fashion Week 2013 last week.

Coast by Opera, the super intuitive and elegant browser tailor-made for the iPad by Opera Software, was named Digital Accessory of the Year by Digital Fashion Week Singapore 2013.

As such, Coast provided one-click access to #DigitalFashionWeek Singapore where online viewers can watch a livestream of a runway show, gain backstage access and watch pre and post show interviews on their iPads.

Not only that, in true "technology meets fashion" fashion, 8 designer labels: L'ILE AUX ASHB, ZENCHI, 72 Smalldive, Cosset, Kae Hana, Lion Earl, Mandy Wu and MASH-UP created custom wallpapers for Coast, based on their Spring/Summer 2014 Collections.

Coast users may download these wallpapers to dress their iPad screens in style

Along with fellow journalists from the region, we met with Huib Kleinhout, Head of the Coast project at Opera Software, where we got to pick his brains on how he foresees the world of fashion and technology coming together (more on this on another post!).

Digital Fashion Week is a yearly interactive event that started in 2012, and for this year was a joint partnership amongst DFW Creative, Google+, YouTube and Twitter, as well as Asos.com, through which consumers can shop looks from the runway via Asos Marketplace.

This year, British Council partnered with Digital Fashion Week Singapore 2013 as well. According to Anthony Phillipson, British High Commissioner to Singapore, "This event is both a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the strength of the UK/Singapore partnership and a fabulous stage for some of the most exciting designers in the world to show off their talent."

Sarah Meisch, Director of Arts of British Council Singapore adds, "Digital Fashion Week Singapore: British Exchange enables us to engage with new and creative ideas of showcasing and to bring people together via an innovative platform for communicating and connecting across cultures".

The star of Digital Fashion Week Singapore 2013 of course, was none other than British supermodel Naomi Campbell.

While Naomi arrived late for the press conference due to flight delays, she was genuinely apologetic and charming that everybody did not seem to mind the wait.

After all, she was in town for her first ever Southeast Asian runway debut and how often is it that we see a catwalk legend right there with us?

I found myself psyched to see Naomi on the runway for ZENCHI, which was scheduled the next day. Seeing the ZENCHI dress on Yvette King was definitely a promise of good things to come.

I promise to share the runway looks with you, as well as my peek into the backstage, along with my discoveries at The Showroom Space. Watch out for my next post!
