Religioso Holiday Collection: Modern Filipiniana + Classic Black & White

When I was younger, the idea of dressing for Linggo ng Wika was something I dreaded.

It meant wearing an ill-fitting baro't saya two sizes too big that the school-contracted costume maker mass produced for several batches of school girls, with no particular concern for fit.

When I was in my teens and my dad was an attache in London, it was a bit of a step up. I wore a beaded jusi patadyong that my mom probably bought from Quiapo.

Filipiniana looks chic on Imelda Marcos, or on my friend Marie (visit her blog marielozano.com,  I've always been a HUGE fan of her style), but never on me.

Maybe because butterfly sleeves are just not a fit for my tomboy style. If I had to wear Filipiniana, I would go for JC Buendia's barong top with a ball skirt:

Although high up on my lust list would be these looks from Valentino S/S 2012:

That is why this top from Religioso's recent Holiday Collection appeals to me. I would totally wear this with a pencil skirt.

I love this sheath dress too.

Apart from Religioso's modern Filipiniana styles, trust sisters Yvette Ilagan and Choc Dayrit to offer modern women a collection of classic silhouettes for special occasion dressing, whatever season.
